You Drive. We Guide.
Many Ontarians are driving less ... or not at all. Auto Insurance premiums can reflect these changes by providing you savings and flexible payment options. Here is more information about what is going on in Ontario in response to covid-19.
Your Policy. Your Way.
An insurance policy for your car, motorcycle or any other vehicle is a contract between you and the insurance company. If you experience an accident (collision), theft, or other damage, this contract protects you against financial loss. The coverage offered by auto insurance in the case of a collision provides for property, liability, and medical expenses.
But if you aren't driving your car right now, you are eligible for a reduction in premium! If you usually commute for work but now aren't, have parked a vehicle because it is no longer needed or have started using your car for deliveries during covid-19, we are able to make adjustments to your policy to reflect these changes.
This situation is moving quickly, and it's our job to keep up. So please let your broker know if you need to make a change or have questions. We are happy to help protect you!
*Not all options below are available to all customers. Please speak with your broker and we'll be happy to discuss your options*
Removing Coverage from a Vehicle
If you are no longer using a car and would like to take road-coverage off the vehicle, that could save you up to 75% of your yearly premium. This requires the vehicle to be completely out of use*, as once collision coverage is removed, you are not allowed to drive the vehicle.
If you are removing Collision Coverage from the vehicle, your broker will be reducing your policy to Comprehensive Coverage only. Comprehensive still covers the vehicle if it is damaged while parked by an unexpected situation - such as falling or flying objects, vandalism, fire, theft or attempted theft or a natural disaster.
The most important part here is to call/email your broker before driving the vehicle again. Your coverage needs to be put back on, and you need new pink slips to be allowed to drive!
Reducing your Commute Kilometers
If your driving activity and daily commute has been reduced as a result of covid-19, your auto insurance premium can reflect this change. You can save up to 15% by working with your broker to reduce the mileage noted on your policy.
Flexible Payment Options
The insurance companies that we work with have provided us some great options for processing payments during this difficult time. Many are being very kind and empathetic to different situations by suspending late or cancellation fees, or by providing opportunity to defer payments.* There are many ways that you may be able to pay your bill through our team at McConville Omni, and we have outlined all of them here.
Now, its important to note that not all policies can be paid in all methods, nor are all methods accepted by the insurance companies. Your broker will be able to work with you to find the right solution for you!
There are a few insurance companies doing things a little differently
We have been working hard with our insurance company partners to find ways to help during this time. Just like insurance policies, each of their responses are a little different. Almost all companies are offering flexible payment options and the ability to make a change to your coverage or mileage as a result of covid-19. So, if you find yourself in a situation where you need payment flexibility or a change in coverage right now, please let us know as soon as possible.

Aviva Canada
Aviva is freezing rates for renewals starting June 15 2020, for one calendar year. If you have had a major traffic violation or significant loss, this may not apply to you. Beginning May 5, 2020, customers who notify us that they’re driving less than before will see a temporary minimum rate reduction of approximately 15% per vehicle. We’re also removing the requirement for them to notify us once their driving situation has changed and instead will apply the rate reduction for 90 days automatically for all changes effective prior to May 31, 2020.
Aviva's #StayHome plan addresses a few areas of concern. Aviva is offering flexibility in payments, by allowing you to defer payments for up to 90 days without penalty. Additionally, for clients who are using their personal vehicles to deliver food and medical supplies during this time, will be covered under Aviva Canada personal auto policies, unless for a third party app (ex. Uber or Skip the Dishes).
Gore Mutual Insurance
All Gore auto insurance policy holders with an active policy as of April 9th 2020, will automatically receive a simple, one-time payment equivalent to 20% of three months premium. The payment will be sent by cheque and will have no detrimental impact to future premiums or coverage. You don't have to do anything!
Gore has introduced their Customer Care Package, which addresses a few areas of concern. Gore is offering flexibility in payments by suspended all cancellations for non-payment and NSF fees until Thursday, April 30, 2020. Additionally, for clients experiencing supply chain disruptions during the claims process, Gore is offering the Quick Cash option for fast settlement.
Travelers Canada
Travelers has launched the Stay-at-Home Auto Premium Credit Program, which will provide a 25% credit on one month‘s premium for your auto insurance (for any active auto policy as of April 1 2020). If you pay annually, this credit will come to you as a cheque from Travelers in the month of May, but if you pay monthly, this will come as a credit on a future bill. You don't have to do anything!
Travelers' Stay-At-Home plan addresses a few additional areas of concern: Travelers is offering flexibility in payments, if you need some extra time right now. Additionally, they are extending auto coverage for customers whose temporary job responsibilities include using their personal vehicles to make food, grocery, pharmacy and medical supply deliveries unless for a third party app (ex. Uber or Skip the Dishes).
Intact Insurance
If you are not driving your vehicle right now and you would like to reduce your annual mileage or change your usage from "Commute" to "Pleasure", you are entitled to a savings in your insurance premium. Intact is offering all customers an additional 15% rebate, for a 3-month period. This will be automatically reverted three months after the initial request, requiring no further action by you!
Pembridge Insurance
All Pembridge customers who have an active automobile policy as of April 8, 2020 qualify to receive a one-time payment of approximately 25% of your monthly auto premium. You can expect to receive this “Stay at Home Payment” by cheque in May, directly from Pembridge. You don't have to do anything!
Pembridge is working hard to put their customers first through this challenging time, and we are happy to support them and represent them! Pembridge is also offering flexibility in payments through a deferral process upon request.
Unica Insurance
Unica has launched the Premium Relief Fund, which will provide a refund to you of 15% of 3 months of your auto insurance premium, if your policy was still active as of April 1 2020. You will receive this as a cheque from Unica directly. You don't have to do anything!
We’ll explain all of the options available to you, make sure you receive the discounts you’re entitled to, and show you how all of the elements of your insurance policy will work together to protect you.
