Frequently Asked Questions
- Why is having cyber insurance important for my business?
The standard commercial general liability policies that most businesses and public and private institutions rely on are increasingly being interpreted by the courts to not cover data breach claims and the resulting damages. It is becoming increasingly more important that your business has the proper cyber liability coverage.
Many policies offer “first party” and “third party” coverage. The policy will cover you for things like business interruption, the cost of notifying customers of a breach, helping to rectify financial losses, physical damage to servers, and even the expense of hiring a public relations firm to repair any damage done to your image as a result of a cyber attack.
- How can I be attacked?
Every business runs on information and this can make you the potential target of cyber crimes. Vulnerable forms of data can include, for example, employee data, customer information, or supplier and partner information.
Your company's website, IT systems, and email phising scams all leave you vulnerable to a cyber attack.
- How do we protect ourselves against a privacy breech or cyber security risks?
A loss can occur from something as simple as a credit card breach all the way up to the strength of your network security.
Malicious software can be added to point of sale devices in restaurants and lounges, and shared networks can be susceptible to data thieves.
Changing your passwords often, ensuring the proper network security and having the right cyber coverage can help protect you.
Can You Identify a Phishing Scam?
We're human, and we make mistakes. But unfortunately, that means that employees are a businesses biggest risk factor when it comes to exposing a virus into your internal system. It's important to educate employees on how to spot a scam, and what to do with an email that they think is suspicious.
A good rule of thumb is: don't click the link, don't open the attachment and never share personal information with someone you don't know. But sometimes ... mistakes happen!

Texts aren't safe either ...
Scammers will go to great lengths to make their messages seem real! Whether it;s using your nickname they found on your Facebook page, or inserting a common name in hopes that you will trust that it came from the "mike" that you know, you should exercise extra caution.
If you don't recognize the number and there is a link or an ask for you to reply, don't do it! Call the store or service they are pretending to represent, and validate the message. Likely, they won;t be able to, and you'll have protected your personal information!
